June Recap

Man, it's great to be back in the States!  It has been a joy to catch up with my family and friends.  At my new assignment government housing is not available to me.  I already found a place off base and will move in tomorrow.  It's 2 miles away from work to save time & gas, and it's also reasonably priced.  They even gave me $450 off the first months rent and a couple other perks for being in the military.  Long term I think I will make money living off base, but in the short term I need to buy furniture.  Ouch furniture is costly.  I'm going to fork over some cash to buy a new bed, everything else can be used for all I care.  For the next few months my savings rate will be pretty low, but I think past that I'll be able to save more than I originally projected!

  1. That sucks that are can not get government housing on this assignment. Your dividend income will help with your new furniture.

    1. Instead of getting free housing, I am now entitled to an additional allowance. It actually is higher than my rent + utilities so I'll make a few hundred extra bucks a month. I will have to drive more though. Finding housing close to work was the highest priority. Not only to save gas, but also time.

  2. CI,

Welcome back to the States! Sounds like you're really enjoying it so far.

Great month! Another exceptional month of dividends and you're continuing to contribute fresh capital. Awesome! Keep it up.

Good luck with the furniture shopping!

    Best wishes.

    1. Thank you! Furniture is pretty dang expensive. I don't want garbage so I guess I'll have to buy a little every month. I'm going to put off buying a couch till next month for example. I hope to do more hiking and camping so as to not hang out at home too much anyway.

  4. I see you and I are going through similar transitions at the moment -- I also moved into my new place on July 1 and have spent some money buying furniture. My savings probably won't return to normal until August or September.

Good job on the dividend income -- nearly $500 is great.

    Welcome back to the U.S.!

    1. Man it is great to be back! There were times when we were up in the mountains and witnessing the scenery really touched me. It's the kind of fuzzy feeling when everything just seems right. Colorado is breath taking, I've never enjoyed driving this much. Found a great spot to camp off a dirt road in the middle of nowhere by a little stream.

I will buy furniture little by little and hopefully be able to save $500 a month for the time being.

  5. Welcome back man! I know what you mean about furniture being expensive. I've bought most of my stuff used and have been slowly getting what I need over the past six months. I think I'm good right now, but I hate shopping for this crap.
